The CV in Denmark

A Danish CV should be brief and well-organized.

The following information should be included:

  1. Personal information.
  2. Education (subjects and for recent graduates, grades).
  3. Working experience (with dates).
  4. Other activities (hobbies, sports and travelling).

Recent graduates should emphasize their grades, the rest of the candidates, their experience. Both should mention other activities.

A photograph is not necessary. In some cases, it can be taken during the first interview. This shouldn’t come as a surprise for the candidate.

Usually, only photocopies of diplomas and certificates are required. References and recommendations are becoming more common for executive positions.

In Denmark, a CV with an American format is not usually sent, except candidates with great working experience or those who write their own ads looking for a job.

An American type CV is less structured and shorter than the typical one. It’s also more subjective. An important point of this kind of CV is it describes the ideal job the candidate would like to have.

Many CVs with American format start with the job the candidate wants and continue with previous positions in chronological order, starting with the most recent one. When it’s convenient, dates are included but this shouldn’t stand out, but the skills and experience of the candidate.
